Katherine Lattey is a final year medical student from Brighton and Sussex Medical School soon to become a foundation year 1 doctor at Northwick Park Hospital, North West Thames deanery. She has a Masters of Research in Maternal and Fetal Health from Manchester University.
Katherine became involved in the Unofficial Guide to Medicine project in her third year of medical school when she started selling the books to enable her peers to tap into this valuable resource. From there she reviewed and wrote the first draft for the obstetrics and psychiatry questions and answers for the Unofficial Guide to OSCE Mark Schemes book. She has also reviewed the Unofficial Guide to Practical Skills, Unofficial Guide to Prescribing and the Unofficial Guide to Radiology.
Further from this Katherine has more recently been working hard as the co-editor for the Unofficial Guide to Obstetrics and Gynaecology which is a new title currently under development. Katherine presented an aspect of the project in a poster titled “Junior doctor and student led “near-peer” medical textbooks: a novel approach to a medical publishing group.” This won the student poster prize at the Association for the Study of Medical Education conference at Brighton, June 2014.
