Congratulations to Lasith on achieving Runner Up in the Zeshan Qureshi Award for Outstanding Achievement in Medical Education.
Zeshan Qureshi Award for Outstanding Achievement in Medical Education - Lasith Ranasinghe

Lasith is a 5th year medical student at Imperial College London with a passion for teaching and research. After completing his first year of medical school, Lasith realised that his notes might be a useful resource for new medical students. He has since shared his notes with hundreds of students and has written more than 8000 short answer questions for students to use when revising.
Through his role as the Early Years Academic Officer at Imperial College, Lasith co-ordinated and ran a mock practical examination for second year students, which will now run every year. He also had a pioneering role within the University’s medical education society, co-leading the society and introducing initiatives such as ‘How to’ lecture series and MedED advice guides for each year group.

“As my knowledge progressed, I began to appreciate the privilege of being able to impart my knowledge on others and the thrill of being able to communicate complex concepts in an understandable manner.”

Lasith has also founded an Interclub Case-Based Tutorial Series whereby senior students in sports clubs put on case-based teaching sessions for junior students as well as publishing a textbook of SBA questions for use by medical students worldwide!
Finally, Lasith is in the process of setting up the charity ‘Make a Medic’ to ship used medical textbooks out of the UK to developing countries in order to support the education of medical students abroad.

“Getting involved with medical education and facilitating the development of my fellow medical students has been an immensely fulfilling part of my medical school experience. I hope that I can ride this enthusiasm and continue these efforts throughout the rest of my career.”

Lasith is truly inspirational and we are really proud to bestow this award upon him. Congratulations!
