Zeshan Qureshi Award for Outstanding Achievement in Medical Education - Robert Lundin Zeshan Qureshi Award for Outstanding Achievement in Medical Education - Maja Kopczynska

Robert and Ben are junior doctors and Maja is a medical student at Cardiff University. The trio have been acknowledged with this award for their work on the ‘Size of Sepsis in Wales’ study. This collaborative research project was first set up in 2014 and has been running every year since. The aims of the project are to collect data on septic patients across Wales whilst also teaching medical students core research skills and accrediting them with publications.

“The aim of WDDCP is to be student-focused and provide them with opportunities to engage with research and learn valuable and transferable skills.”

Since its inception, the project has resulted in five publications, giving 680 students collaborator status and 73 students full authorship status.

“Many students continued participating in the project over the years, increasing their responsibilities. Through feedback, students mentioned WDDCP provided them with the first contact with research and inspired them to participate in further clinical studies.”

Congratulations to Maja, Robert and Ben on this fantastic project which has helped hundreds of medical students take their first steps into clinical research.
