Cardiology Registrar and Honorary Cardiology Research Fellow

Matthew Lee is a Cardiology Registrar and Honorary Cardiology Research Fellow in the West of Scotland, having completed his initial postgraduate and undergraduate training in Edinburgh and Fife, and previously worked as a part-time nursing care assistant.

Dr Lee has published including in the ‘New England Journal of Medicine’ (letter on thrombus aspiration), ‘European Heart Journal’ (‘FAMOUS-NSTEMI’ randomised controlled trial), ‘JACC: Cardiovascular Interventions’ (systematic review on adenosine), ‘Environmental Health Perspectives’ (air pollution cardiovascular research) and ‘Acute Medicine’ (picture quiz), as well as authoring ‘The Unofficial Guide To Prescribing’ book (‘Additional Important Scenarios’ chapter). In the upcoming ‘Unofficial Guide to Medicine’ book, Dr Lee is currently editor of the ‘Acute Medicine’ and ‘Critical Care’ chapters.

Dr Lee is a keen clinical teacher, having co-established the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh’s ‘Evening Medical Updates’ webstreaming across two hospital sites (Paisley, Wishaw), co-led regional bedside teaching (Southeast Scotland), and actively supports postgraduate and undergraduate educational activities (examinations, tutorials, mentorship) for trainees.

Dr Lee speaks 4 languages (including Mandarin and Spanish) (so far!), is an accomplished musician (pianist and violinist), and enjoys salsa dancing.
